Willemstad - On Thursday May 4th, 2000, a staffmember of Earth First
Curaçao went on an exploratory tour of the Malpais Region with 3 members of the Unique
Curaçao Foundation and while hiking through the area they encountered a sad scene of
senseless destruction of a saltwater lagoon which is an important breeding area for
several species of waterbirds and other fauna. The toxic, chemical waste also caused all
flora in this saltwater lagoon to wither and die....

Is this ever going to stop:
senseless destruction of Curaçao's natural habitats of indigenous birds, and other flora

[3] A "text-book"
environmental disaster.
The EF Curaçao staff got all
teary-eyed while optimizing and editing these pictures for this webpage. We hope that
someday we will be able to catch the idiots who caused this destruction of one of
Curaçao's formerly most beautiful waterbird habitats, now turned into a
"text-book" environmental disaster.

[5] A toxic mixture of oil and paint.
At one moment the EF Curaçao photographer even lost her
concentration to take a straight level picture.

You can clearly see how high the oil was at
one time before it slowly seeped throughout the entire saltwater lagoon. Imagine what will
happen when some idiot discards a cigarette into this lagoon.
|
[7] Life threatening toxic waste.
A mixture of oil and paint coats the surface of the water, and
the bottom of this saltwater lagoon, choking all waterplants, killing fish and threatening
the breeding process of all waterbirds and other animals that reside in this area.
